Neighbors

I believe that if I don’t leave the world better in at least one way than I found it, then what’s the point of living?  With the first money I ever earned, when I was in seventh grade, I received a scholarship for painting.

It probably wasn’t a lot of money, but it was everything I had. I gave it all to a neighbor girl, who was in ninth grade, when I found out she was diagnosed with kidney failure.

Up until now my mother was the only other person in the world who knew about this.
